*So Glad You Asked That*

A question was posed at one of the Facebook groups I belong to that sparked me into creating a whole post about it in this blog.

The question is -
Why should the city be responsible for the homeless?

Personally, I was stunned that anyone would even ask such a thing.
But not everyone is as open-minded or even compassionate.

Here are my top five my reasons I think our city/community should take some responsibility to help the homeless.

1. When it comes to our Vets - we OWE it to them. Period.

2. The next homeless person could easily be your most beloved friend, neighbor or even a family member.

3. To support having them arrested as criminals only results in tax dollars paying for everything that goes along with that course of action - paper work, housing them in the jails, issuing bench warrants, paying those that arrest them and on and on and on,....

4. It will keep our parks cleaner and free of homeless debris that they scatter all over the place, which our tax dollars end up being spent on to clean up anyway.

5. It just might help free another fellow human being from the bondage of homelessness enabling them to get on their feet and be an asset to the community.

There are all kinds of people in the world.
We've got the givers, the takers, the victims, the bullies, the know-it-all's, the alarmists, the passive, the abused, the healers and the list goes on an on.

It's those that live a life governed by fear that have become our own worst enemy.
It amazes me with as much as we've learned, as much as we've advanced and as much as we've been given the opportunity to have, (as in material things), we've become a society scared to death at the thought of giving up even the most trivial of things.

People have become so mortified of ending up in need themselves that they don't want to give up anything to help others. We've become hoarders of what keeps us the most comfortable and that breeds materialistic gluttony of the worst kind.
End of rant.

On the other hand, we have some beautiful, generous souls in this world that work tirelessly 24/7 to help those less fortunate than themselves.
And God Bless Them!

So, WHY should our city be responsible for the homeless?
My question is this -
Why the heck shouldn't we?
